Traditional Hookahs
Traditional hookahs originate from of course the history of the world and going back to the very root of the pipe we travel to India where the hookah pipe was first created. The pipe spread to the Middle eastern Arabic countries like the Ottoman Empire (nowadays Turkey). Egypt and Syria were under the rule of the Orttoman Empire and so it was the Ottomans that were responsible for introducting shisha tobacco pipe to the Egyptians and Syrians who then put their own twist on to the story of the hookah pipe. For information please see Indian hookahs, Egyptian Hookah Pipes, Turkish Shisha Pipes and Syrian Hookahs for more information.
Coming up to the modern day we also see that modern hookah pipe manufacture has become big business in China where Chinese hookah pipes are made in the thousands every day in factories.
The British were introduced to the Hookah pipe first in India during the time of the Raj, the British occupation and rule of India from the 1850’s up until 1947. Many expatriated British citizens living in India enjoyed smoking on the hookah water pipe and brought the pipes back to good old Blightey when they returned. Today the hookah pipe is enjoyed around the world, having become popular in the UK, EU, northern USA and Australia particularly. In the middle east and far east it is literally fused with their daily traditions and very much a part of every day life.
